Bruce Pascoe is an Aboriginal farmer and the author of the groundbreaking, bestselling book, Dark Emu. Join him at Seymour in conversation with Jazz Money, multi-award-winning Wiradjuri poet and artist, to celebrate his new book, The European Mind, released this September.

In The European Mind, Pascoe examines Western powers from a First Nations perspective. He contends that European imperialism and colonialism were not only driven by economic and exploratory factors, but motivated by a self-perpetuating belief based on moral superiority, racial hierarchy, spiritual entitlement and an insatiable greed paraded as economics.

Pascoe traces how these ideas became a truth through which religion, history, myth and storytelling changed the lives of countless peoples, countries and continents through violence, dispossession and environmental exploitation.

Framed by a First Nations philosophy, The European Mind critiques the ideas behind empire and takes readers on a journey of how we arrived here and where we hope to be.

Jazz Money is a Wiradjuri poet and artist. They are the author of the multi-award-winning poetry collections how to make a basket (2021) and mark the dawn (2024), and the illustrated children's book The Frog’s First Song (2025). As a visual artist, Jazz works with poetics to create immersive storied spaces. Their writing and art has been presented, performed and published around the world.
