Magabala Books celebrated the launch of its new shop and premises at an event on Friday June 26. 

The redevelopment journey began seven years ago with support from the Kimberley Development Commission and Royalties for Regions for planning and design. The Department of Culture and the Arts WA and Lotterywest funded further design and the capital works. In 2014, the Shire of Broome provided a generous rent subsidy to Magabala Books which secured the sustainability of the project and building began last October.

Its building revamp, designed by Broome’s Engawa Architects and built by Tjallara Construction, has given Magabala Books a striking new presence at the entry to Broome.

The event was well attended and coordinated with the 2016 Kullarri NAIDOC program.
