'Open Your Heart to Country' wins a 2023 Prime Minister’s Literary Award

Congratulations to Jasmine Seymour, her book Open Your Heart to Country has won the Children’s Literature category in the 2023 Prime Minister’s Literary Awards.

This is the second time Jasmine has won the category, after her book Cooee Mittigar, illustrated by Leanne Mulgo Watson, won in 2020.  

Open Your Heart to Country is a moving bilingual masterpiece in English and Dharug centring on reconnection to Country from a First Nations Perspective.

The Prime Minister’s Literary Awards recognise and celebrate the exceptional literary talents of established and emerging Australian writers, illustrators, poets and historians. Up to $100,000 is awarded in each category: $80,000 for each winner and $5,000 each for shortlisted entries.  

Jasmine Seymour is a Dharug woman and primary school teacher with a wish that through her books, everyone will know that the Dhurag mob are still strong.
