Our Board

Magabala Books Aboriginal Corporation is incorporated under the Commonwealth Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006. The Board of Directors are appointed from the membership for an initial period of two years. A member of Magabala Books must be:
•    of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent
•    at least 18 years of age
•    normally and permanently resident in the Kimberley region or have resided there for five years
      or more.

The role of the Board is to oversee the strategic management of the organisation and to decide its vision, mission, purpose and direction.  The Board works closely with the CEO to set appropriate goals and to ensure that the social, financial and corporate aims and objectives of the organisation are met.  In addition by law, the Directors have specific duties related to good governance.
Note: A Director cannot be an employee of the Corporation.  In addition, any member who has applied to the Corporation for publication of one of their works as an author, editor or artist cannot be appointed as a Director until after a decision has been made as to whether the work should be published by Magabala Books.
