Iris Burgoyne is the author of Mirning: we are the whales. This book is no longer in print.

Iris was born at Koonibba Mission on the west coast of South Australia. While growing up, she shared the stories of Elders who maintained an independent and self-sufficient life living in camps on the outskirts of the mission. Her family also made pilgrimages into the Nullarbor Plain in an area called Wigina, near Fowlers Bay. It was here she learned the rituals and Law from her traditional people. Iris is an Elder of the Mirning people and a respected figure in the Aboriginal community of Port Lincoln.
